Kid Rock Defends Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Performance as ‘DEI’ for Black People

Kendrick Lamar’s highly anticipated Super Bowl 59 halftime show sparked debate among fans, with some praising his performance and others criticizing it. According to Kid Rock, who appeared on HBO’s “Real Time with Bill Maher,” Lamar’s show was “DEI” (diversity, equity, and inclusion) for “in the hood Black people.”

Kid Rock explained that he respects Lamar’s artistry, despite not being a fan of his music. He credits Colin Kaepernick, former NFL quarterback who began kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial injustice, with helping Lamar secure the halftime show gig through Jay-Z’s agreement with the NFL. Kid Rock believes that without Kaepernick’s protests, Lamar wouldn’t have been selected for the show.

Kid Rock further defended Lamar’s performance, saying it was “the epitome of DEI blowing up” as the NFL highlighted its commitment to diversity and inclusion. He praised Lamar’s ability to speak to his predominantly Black audience, describing it as an “exclusive thing ever.”
