A suspect in Kim Kardashian’s 2016 Paris robbery has died before he could stand trial for the crime. Marceau Baum-Gertner, 72, was responsible for selling stolen jewelry and had been living in Paris while awaiting trial. Officials were unaware of his death until it was reported.
Baum-Gertner had multiple previous convictions and was considered a career criminal. He was due to go on trial with several other suspects, including Didier “Blue Eyes” Dubreucq and François “Big Guy” Delaporte. Kim Kardashian is scheduled to testify in the trial as a key witness.
The robbery occurred at the Hôtel de Pourtalès during Paris Fashion Week when a group of men dressed as police officers entered Kardashian’s hotel room, tied her up, and held her at gunpoint. They stole an estimated $10 million worth of jewelry from Kardashian.
Baum-Gertner was receiving death threats from his gangland connections as the trial approached, but it is unclear how he died. The French Justice Ministry described Baum-Gertner’s crimes as “to the detriment of Ms Kim Kardashian.”
