South Korean actor Kim Soo Hyun has denied allegations about his relationship with late actress Kim Sae-ron, claiming they were untrue. In a press conference on Monday, Kim, 37, said he did not date her when she was a minor and that their relationship was just an ordinary couple like anyone else. He also expressed regret for staying quiet when the allegations emerged last year, fearing backlash from his Netflix series “Queen of Tears”.
Kim has repeatedly denied the claims made by a YouTube channel in March, which alleged they had entered into a relationship when Kim Sae-ron was still a minor. His talent agency previously stated that their relationship took place when both were adults.
The allegations sparked an online firestorm and led to luxury fashion house Prada and popular Korean cosmetics brand Dinto ending their collaborations with Kim Soo Hyun. A lawyer for the actor has announced a lawsuit against multiple parties, including the YouTube channel and Kim Sae-ron’s family, accusing them of defamation and violation of information protection.
Kim Sae-ron was found dead at home in February at 24 years old, nearly two years after she retreated from public view following a drunk-driving conviction. The investigation into her death has revealed no signs of foul play.
