Kimi Antonelli Promoted Back to P4 After Australian GP Penalty Overturned

Kimi Antonelli’s five-second time penalty during the Australian Grand Prix has been lifted, allowing him to regain his fourth-place finish. The Italian driver was initially penalized after being deemed to have been released into the path of Nico Hulkenberg in the pit lane.

Mercedes submitted a successful “Right of Review” request, which included new footage from the roll hoop camera and helicopter cameras that were previously unavailable. This footage showed that Antonelli had sufficient room to safely pass the McLaren pits without risking the safety of the mechanics.

As a result, Antonelli has been reinstated in P4, earning two additional points for his team. The Italian’s demotion from P5 initially sparked controversy among rivals, but Mercedes’ appeal has ensured their rival teams do not gain an advantage.

The overturned penalty also affects Alex Albon, who was initially awarded 12 points for a 4th-place finish but will now receive only 10 points after being bumped down to fifth place.
