Amazon’s first color ereader, the Kindle Colorsoft, is back on sale for a record low price of $230, which is $50 off its original price. The deal makes it available to everyone, without any restrictions, unlike previous discounts that were only for Prime subscribers.
The Colorsoft comes with three free months of access to Kindle Unlimited, offering users more than 4 million ebooks during this time. However, it’s essential to cancel the subscription before the free period ends if you don’t want to pay $12 per month.
In our initial review, some early units developed a yellow bar across the bottom, but Amazon has resolved the issue and is providing refunds and replacements to affected customers. We’ve removed the score from our review until further testing confirms that the problem doesn’t recur.
The Kindle Colorsoft boasts quick load times, auto-adjusting front lights, and no ads on the lock screen by default. It also features a pinch-to-zoom feature for reading graphic novels. The device has 32GB of built-in storage, supports Audible audiobooks, and can last up to two weeks on a single charge.
The highlight of this ereader is its color screen, which features a seven-inch display with a high 300 ppi density for black-and-white material and 150 ppi for color content. The device also has an IPX8 rating, making it waterproof in up to two meters of freshwater for 60 minutes and seawater for three minutes.
