Stephen King has given his seal of approval to a new movie adaptation of one of his books, calling it “one of the good ones”. The film, based on King’s novella “The Life of Chuck”, premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. Directed by Mike Flanagan, who previously adapted King’s novels “Gerald’s Game” and “Doctor Sleep”, the film stars Mark Hamill, Tom Hiddleston, Chiwetel Ejiofor, and Karen Gillan.
King praised the film on social media, saying it’s “sad, has a touch of the paranormal, but it’s also joyful and life-afirming. Maybe not what you’d expect from me, but there ya go.” Hamill, who appears in the film, called it “a feel-good apocalypse movie” and praised Flanagan’s unique direction.
Fans are hailing the adaptation as one of the best King adaptations yet, with Collider calling it “a contender for being crowned the best King-originated film ever made”. TheWrap also praised the film, saying it’s “magnificent”.
The novella was part of King’s 2020 collection “If It Bleeds”, and marks a departure from his typical horror genre. King has written several non-horror novels throughout his career, including “The Shawshank Redemption” and “Stand by Me”.
