King Soopers Colorado Springs Employees Approve Strike Over Unfair Labor Practices

Colorado Springs has joined a growing list of King Soopers locations that have voted to approve a strike over alleged unfair labor practices. The move comes after contract negotiations between Local 7 and Kroger-owned King Soopers failed.

In the vote, 96% of Retail Bargaining Unit workers in Colorado Springs supported going on strike, while 98% of Meat Bargaining Unit workers approved the strike. This follows similar actions taken by employees in Metro Denver, Boulder, Parker, and Broomfield, who also voted to approve a strike.

The decision was made after Local 7 filed multiple Unfair Labor Practice charges against King Soopers, citing issues such as illegal intimidation of workers, inadequate staffing information, and robbing retiree healthcare benefits to fund wage increases.

Local 7 President Kim Cordova stated that the company’s actions have “compounded its history of targeting consumers with predatory pricing.” The union is seeking changes to address chronic understaffing in stores and better labor conditions for employees.

The strike dates, times, and locations will be announced before the planned strikes.
