The Los Angeles Kings’ four-game winning streak came to an end with a 2-1 loss to the Seattle Kraken at Crypto.com Arena on Monday. Despite having a lead, the Kings failed to capitalize and secured their second consecutive defeat.
Quinton Byfield scored the lone goal for the Kings in the first period, giving his team a 1-0 lead. However, the Kraken tied it up at 1-1 with just over two minutes left in the opening frame. Matty Beniers scored the equalizer after Jamie Oleksiak’s centering pass found its way to him.
Seattle took the lead for good during a 4-on-4 power play at 19:29 of the first period, thanks to Brandon Montour’s wrist shot over Darcy Kuemper’s glove. The Kraken have won three consecutive games, including their current road trip, which is part of a five-game stretch.
The Kings were without key defensemen Drew Doughty and Joel Edmundson due to injury. Despite this, the team showed resilience with Kuemper making 26 saves in his 14th straight start allowing two goals or fewer. Coach Jim Hiller praised Kuemper’s performance, saying he made several crucial saves.
The loss has left the Kings four points behind the Edmonton Oilers and five points behind the Vegas Golden Knights, who lead the Pacific Division. The Kings remain tied with the Oilers for second place but have lost ground in the standings.
