Nintendo has announced that Kirby Air Ride, a classic racing game from 2003, is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2. The new game, titled Kirby Air Riders, will be released on November 20 and features updated controls, more characters, and modes beyond the original. Director Masahiro Sakurai, known for his work on the Super Smash Bros. series and other iconic Nintendo titles, has directed the sequel.
In addition to traditional racing, Kirby Air Riders offers a variety of game modes, including City Trial mode where players can upgrade their rides quickly by gathering power-ups and battling opponents. The game allows up to eight human players locally or 16 online. Sakurai also revealed that the game will feature new characters such as King Dedede, Meta Knight, and Starman, who can use copy abilities like Kirby.
The development team behind Kirby Air Riders includes Bandai Namco Studios and Sora LTD, which worked on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The game is being released ahead of a light first-party lineup for the Switch 2 console.
