Nintendo has announced that Kirby Air Riders will be released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 console on November 20th. The game is a modernized version of the original GameCube classic and features improved multiplayer options, including up to eight players in local wireless play and up to 16 players online.
Developer Masahiro Sakurai, who also worked on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC, expressed his excitement for the new project while discussing his recent experiences with game development through YouTube videos. The game promises to offer a variety of racing machines, point challenges, battle arenas, and exploration modes.
Kirby Air Riders will be the first game directed by Sakurai since completing work on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Switch Online subscribers can access an early taste of the game’s soundtrack through the Nintendo Music app, which recently added seven tracks ahead of the launch.
The release comes as part of a larger Kirby-themed bundle for the Switch 2 console, including Kirby and the Forgotten Land + Star-Crossed World Nintendo Switch 2 Edition. This latest development has sparked a renewed interest in Sakurai’s “Kirby Theory of Distress,” which posits that Nintendo releases a Kirby game whenever the world is facing more challenges than usual.
