The latest presentation from Kirby Air Riders Direct showcased the game’s exciting vehicular action, new features, and returning modes. Game Director Masahiro Sakurai gave viewers a deep dive into the fast-paced gameplay, including enhanced rider selection, new Air Ride machines, and special moves.
Players will have access to various riders, each with unique characteristics and abilities. These include familiar faces from the Kirby series, as well as some unexpected additions. The game also features improved Air Ride modes, including City Trial, Stadiums, and Lessons.
In City Trial mode, players compete in a high-speed race across a floating island called Skyah, collecting power-ups and attacking opponents to upgrade their machines. This is complemented by random Field Events that pop up throughout the map, adding an extra layer of challenge and unpredictability.
Stadiums provide another competitive experience where players strategically select challenges based on the power-ups they’ve gathered. The game also features local and online multiplayer modes, allowing up to 8 or 16 players to compete in battles with friends via Nintendo Switch Online membership.
Throughout the presentation, Mr. Sakurai highlighted the importance of rider selection and the various techniques available to outmaneuver opponents. Players can use copy abilities to acquire new skills and enhance their gameplay experience.
The game is set to release on November 20 for Nintendo Switch 2 systems. Attendees at PAX West 2025 will have the opportunity to play a hands-on demo of Kirby Air Riders, while fans can pre-order the game through the Nintendo Music app.
Additional features include parental controls and seven tracks from the Kirby Air Riders soundtrack available on the Nintendo Music app, with music releases starting later today.
