Nintendo’s latest “game + add-on” release for Kirby and the Forgotten Land is Star-Crossed World, a modestly-sized DLC that brings new levels, enemies, and transformations to the table. The game’s 12 new stages are enjoyable and cleverly designed, with some standout moments like navigating moving platforms or breaking through crystal flowers.
The levels themselves are top-notch, but the overall package feels slight compared to what was already available in the base game. There are no boss fights, Treasure Road bonus stages, or significant changes to Waddle Dee Village. The new star-based currency becomes uninteresting once its only use is unlocking gacha figurines.
While the DLC’s lack of content might be disappointing, it still offers a fun afternoon of fresh platforming and clever puzzle ideas. However, for those who have already beaten Forgotten Land, having access to all the existing transformations can make some enemies too easy to defeat.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition comes with welcome performance improvements, including higher FPS and resolution, but these changes aren’t drastic enough to justify the $80 price tag. Overall, Star-Crossed World is a solid addition to Kirby and the Forgotten Land’s content, but its limitations keep it from feeling like a substantial expansion.
