Kneecap Rapper Mo Chara Faces Terror-Related Charge in London

Rapper Mo Chara, a member of Irish hip-hop group Kneecap, appeared before a London court Wednesday as he faces a terror-related charge. The single charge stems from a November concert where Chara waved a Hezbollah flag, arousing “reasonable suspicion” that he supported the Lebanese militant group.

Chara’s lawyer says his client is not being prosecuted due to his support for Palestinians or criticism of Israel. Prosecutor Michael Bisgrove stated that Chara has the right to voice his opinions and solidarity with others, but the charge focuses on a video showing him wearing a Hezbollah flag while expressing support for Hamas.

Kneecap has long been a vocal supporter of the Palestinian cause and has faced controversy in Britain since last year’s arts grant decision was overturned. The band is set to perform at Glastonbury Festival alongside notable artists, including Neil Young and Olivia Rodrigo.

Outside the courthouse, hundreds of Kneecap fans gathered, holding signs that read “Free Mo Chara” and “Defend Kneecap.” The group claims it does not support Hezbollah or Hamas and will fight any charges against its members.
