The New York Knicks continued their winning streak, defeating the Utah Jazz 119-103 in their ninth consecutive win. Without top point guards Jalen Brunson and Miles McBride due to injuries, Cam Payne made his first start of the season for the Knicks. Josh Hart recorded his second consecutive triple-double with 15 points, 14 rebounds, and 12 assists.
The Knicks’ depth was evident as Karl-Anthony Towns had another monster game with 31 points and 21 boards. Mikal Bridges added 27 points, while OG Anunoby chipped in 22 points, including a key steal and block on All-Star Lauri Markkanen.
“We have great depth,” Hart said after the game. “We’ve got guys that can score the ball.” The Knicks’ defense also shone, with Payne recording three steals in his season-high 35 minutes.
The Knicks spotted the Jazz an early 10-point lead but Anunoby’s steal and slam sparked a turnaround. The team’s improved defense led to a 12-2 stretch in December, and they carried that momentum into Friday night’s game against Oklahoma City.
“We do have a pretty good bench,” Payne said. “Everybody is always working on their game. And when their time is called, everybody is ready.” With the win, the Knicks will face a tougher test against the West-leading Thunder next week.
Coach Tom Thibodeau praised his team’s hard-fought win, saying, “It’s just a good, hard-fought win. Just find a way to win. That’s what the season is — next guy get in there and get the job done.” The Knicks will look to continue their winning streak when they face Oklahoma City on Friday night.
