The New York Knicks edged past the Miami Heat 116-112 in overtime, thanks to a resurgent performance from point guard Jalen Brunson. Brunson scored 16 of his 31 points in the fourth quarter and overtime, cementing his reputation as “Captain Clutch.”
Brunson’s calm demeanor under pressure has become an hallmark of his game, allowing him to beat opponents with shots, dribbles, finishes, or passes. Coach Tom Thibodeau praised Brunson’s poise, saying, “He can beat you a lot of different ways.”
Brunson got plenty of help from teammates, including OG Anunoby and Josh Hart. Anunoby was a two-way powerhouse, scoring 23 points with nine rebounds and five assists before dunking the dagger in overtime.
The Knicks’ comeback was fueled by their ability to recover from a dismal first half. They trailed by 19 points at halftime but rallied behind Karl-Anthony Towns’ benchings for Mikal Bridges and the emergence of Mitchell Robinson.
Brunson’s heroics have left opposing coaches, including Erik Spoelstra, scrambling to game plan against him. “He keeps opposing coaches up at night,” Spoelstra said. “He’s a tough guy to game plan against because he’s so clever.”
The win moves the Knicks to 40-20 overall and 5-0 in overtime games.
