Kohl’s Closes 27 Underperforming Stores by April 2025

Retailer Kohl’s plans to close 27 underperforming stores by April 2025 as part of its transformation process. The company, which has seen declining sales, will shut down these locations to focus on its profitable store base.

According to the company, all employees at the closing stores have been informed and offered a competitive severance package or the opportunity to apply for other open roles at Kohl’s. CEO Tom Kingsbury will step down as CEO on January 15, while Ashley Buchanan will take over as the new CEO.

Kohl’s also plans to close an e-commerce fulfillment center in San Bernardino, California, which has been in operation since 2010. The company expects its full-year sales for 2024 to be down 7-8%.

The closures are part of Kohl’s long-term growth strategy, and the company will continue to prioritize customer satisfaction and team well-being. With over 1,120 locations remaining, Kohl’s is committed to adapting and thriving in a changing retail landscape.
