Kristen Stewart Makes Directorial Debut with Emotional ‘The Chronology of Water’

Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut “The Chronology of Water” premiered at the Cannes Film Festival to a standing ovation, earning praise for its raw and unflinching style. The film, adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch’s 2011 memoir, stars Imogen Poots as Yuknavitch and explores themes of sexual abuse, drug use, and poetic salvation through water. Stewart co-wrote the screenplay with Yuknavitch’s husband, Andy Mingo, and overcame financing struggles to bring the project to life after announcing its development in 2018. The film’s world premiere marked a long-awaited milestone for Stewart, who expressed relief at finally sharing her vision with audiences.
