Kroger workers in Colorado have voted to authorize a strike, with union members showing strong support for the move. The UFCW Local 7 Union, which represents meat and retail workers at Kroger stores, said that both groups voted overwhelmingly in favor of the strike.
The employees plan to join picket lines from Denver, Boulder, Parker, and Broomfield. Despite a counteroffer from Kroger’s president, Joe Kelly, who offered increased hourly pay and health insurance benefits, the union says this would be an unlawful move, as it would cut $9 million from their retiree healthcare fund.
The strike is set to begin unless an agreement is reached. The outcome of the strike has yet to be confirmed, but the union’s president, Kim Cordova, emphasized the workers’ determination for fair treatment and benefits.
