Boston Red Sox pitcher Kutter Crawford will undergo season-ending surgery on his right throwing wrist due to an off-field “accident”, according to manager Alex Cora. The 29-year-old had been dealing with a right knee injury throughout the season but was considered durable despite patellar tendon discomfort.
Crawford’s injury setback occurred during the offseason, preventing him from pitching in spring training and forcing his placement on the 60-day injured list in March. Despite being tied for most innings pitched in the American League with 183⅔, he struggled with 34 homers allowed.
Manager Alex Cora expressed disappointment over Crawford’s injury, saying it has made the Red Sox’s starting rotation thinner. Additionally, third baseman Alex Bregman, who has been out since May 23 due to a quadriceps injury, is unlikely to return until after the All-Star break. However, Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, revealed that his client is open to re-signing with the Red Sox this season.
