LA City Faces Four Lawsuits Over Television City Project

Four separate lawsuits were filed against the city of Los Angeles regarding the Television City project, a major studio expansion approved by the city council on January 7. The plaintiffs include The Grove, A.F. Gilmore Company, Save Beverly Fairfax, and the Beverly Wilshire Homes Association, all of which opposed the project during the entitlement process.

The lawsuits claim that the city violated the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and did not properly assess the project’s impacts on surrounding neighborhoods. Opponents argue that the project will create additional traffic, parking problems, pollution, and other harmful impacts in the community.

Hackman Capital Partners, the owner of Television City, argues that the project is necessary to create more studio space in Los Angeles, as companies are planning to move production out of the city without expansion. The company claims that the project will provide thousands of jobs in Los Angeles.

However, many groups in the community have expressed support for the project, including the Mid City West Neighborhood Council, Fairfax Business Association, and Park La Brea Residents Association. They argue that expanding Television City will make it easier for productions to stay in L.A., allowing people to stay in their homes and work in their neighborhoods.

The lawsuits are ongoing, with timelines yet to be established for when they will move forward in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
