Health officials in California are warning consumers about an energy product sold at convenience stores that contains the compound kratom, which can be addictive and carry toxic consequences. Three people have died of overdoses in the Los Angeles area after using products containing the synthetic compound 7-Hydroxymitragynine (7-OH). The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has issued a public warning about the risks of 7-OH, which can cause severe respiratory depression and death, especially when combined with alcohol or other sedatives.
