Heavy rain is expected in Los Angeles ahead of storms moving into the region. Over 100 homes in the West Bureau area and two more in the Valley Bureau have been placed under mandatory evacuation orders due to potential mudslides from the Palisades Fire burn scar. City officials warn that residents near these areas must evacuate by 10 pm Monday, with police officers conducting door-to-door notifications.
The Los Angeles Police Department has already made contact with half of the residents in the affected area, coordinating with the Red Cross for shelter assistance. The city is preparing to respond to severe weather with resources including helicopters, pilots, and extra dispatch teams.
Mayor Karen Bass advises Angelenos to stay safe and be prepared, citing 13,000 feet of temporary concrete barriers in debris flow areas and sandbags available at local fire stations. Meteorologist Dr. Ariel Cohen warns that while most areas will experience only rain and wind, localized severe weather can cause damage from strong winds, tornadoes, and debris flows.
Residents are encouraged to plan ahead for emergencies by staying indoors with sturdy structures, avoiding windows, and not traveling through flooded roadways. With multiple emergency alert systems available, Angelenos can stay informed overnight and during the storm.
