A passenger jet was forced to abort takeoff at LaGuardia airport on Tuesday, May 6, due to a potential collision with another plane. The American Eagle flight AA4736 operated by Republic Airways was cleared for takeoff when an air traffic controller suddenly instructed them to cancel. United Airlines flight UA2657 was taxiing on the same runway at the time and was just 0.27 miles away from the Republic Airways plane.
The incident occurred after another close call in February, where a Southwest plane at Chicago’s Midway airport was forced to do a go-around due to a business jet crossing the runway during landing. The FAA has been installing new safety technology at airports across the country due to the increasing frequency of these incidents.
