A powerful lake-effect snowstorm has brought significant snowfall to Western New York, prompting multiple counties to be placed under state of emergency and lake-effect snow warnings. Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a state of emergency on Friday for Erie, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, Genesee, Allegany, and Wyoming counties amid the region’s first significant snowfall event this winter.
As of Monday morning, various locations in these counties reported impressive snowfall totals. In Allegany County, Centerville saw 8 inches of snow, while West Almond received 6.1 inches. Cattaraugus County was hit with 40.9 inches, and Little Valley reported 21.6 inches.
Erie County also experienced significant snowfall, with Buffalo Airport reporting just 1.2 inches. However, other areas such as Silver Creek saw a whopping 25.1 inches, while Hamburg received 23.2 inches.
