The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired Charlotte Hornets center Mark Williams in exchange for Dalton Knecht and Cam Reddish, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. This deal comes just days after the team sent Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Dončić.
Mark Williams, a 7-footer from Duke, is having his best season in the league, averaging 16 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. The Hornets took him with the No. 15 overall pick in 2022. In exchange, the Lakers will send Knecht, who was drafted by Tennessee last summer, and Reddish, a second-season player.
The move gives the Lakers a new center to replace Anthony Davis, who left for the Mavericks in a recent deal. The team is now in a solid position to make a push for the playoffs, with a 29-19 record heading into their matchup against the Golden State Warriors. Williams will join a team that has won nine of its last 11 games under first-year head coach JJ Redick. However, it’s unclear whether these moves will lead to another championship before LeBron James retires.
