A Westchester landscaping company, Griffin’s Landscaping, is poised to receive tens of millions of dollars in tree-planting contracts despite its owner facing prison time for a bribery scheme. The company has two active contracts worth $14.7 million and three upcoming contracts totaling $24.6 million with the Parks Department.
Glenn Griffin, the company owner, faces federal prison time after being convicted of bribing a city employee to dump debris on public property. Griffin’s guilty plea included a $1.2 million fine and up to 64 months in prison.
Griffin’s Landscaping is currently under independent integrity monitoring agreements through the city’s Department of Investigation, similar to another city landscaper that has also received millions in contracts despite legal issues. The company’s vice president expressed outrage at the Parks Department’s continued use of problematic firms, calling it a “slap in the face for any single honest contractor.”
The decision to award contracts to Griffin’s Landscaping has raised concerns about law and order, with the union representing thousands of city workers stating that the agency should prioritize trust and fairness over budgetary considerations.
