A sluggish summer is affecting Sin City as tourism numbers have plummeted. According to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), visitor numbers declined by 11.3% in June compared to last year, with a total of 3.1 million people visiting the city.
The decline can be attributed to various factors, including increased costs such as flights, resort fees, and service charges, making travel to Vegas expensive. Convention traffic has also decreased, and international visitors from Canada and Mexico are down.
However, major operators on the strip remain confident in Las Vegas’ resilience, citing “normal seasonality” as the reason for the slump. They point out that the city’s record-breaking year in 2024 sets a high bar, but they’re optimistic about the second half of 2025 with several large conventions and trade shows planned.
Travel experts suggest taking advantage of lower airfare and hotel prices during this slow season. To save money, consider staying from Sunday to Thursday and eating at nicer restaurants for lunch instead of dinner.
