Laser-Powered Mosquito Killer Seeks Funding on IndieGogo

A new, high-tech mosquito killer, dubbed the Photonmatrix, is seeking funding on IndieGogo. The device uses LiDAR scanning to locate and destroy mosquitoes at a rate of up to 30 pests per second. With a kill zone radius of up to 6 meters (19.7 feet), it can effectively eliminate mosquitoes in large areas.

The Photonmatrix comes with two editions: Basic and Pro, both of which offer smartphone power bank compatibility for up to 16 hours of use. The Pro edition has a larger active radius than the Basic model but comes at an additional $200 premium price.

Critics have raised safety concerns, particularly regarding potential damage to TV screens or other electronic devices. However, developer Jim Wong claims that the device is designed with human and pet safety in mind.

The funding campaign for the Photonmatrix has already exceeded its initial goal of $20,000, with backers saving up to $40 on the Basic model price.

This latest mosquito killer joins a growing list of DIY solutions aimed at combating the spread of mosquitoes. As one developer noted, “the inventor underestimated how much people hate mosquitos.”
