Late-Night Hosts Roast Trump’s Plastic Straw Ban and Pete Hegseth’s Name Change

Late-night hosts Jimmy Kimmel, The Daily Show’s Jordan Klepper, and Seth Meyers took aim at President Donald Trump and his top cabinet member, Pete Hegseth, in their shows on Tuesday. Trump’s war on plastic straws was a recurring joke among the hosts.

Trump had issued an executive order to ban plastic straws, but Kimmel found it hard to take seriously. “His straws are exploding? How hard is he sucking?” Kimmel laughed. The president explained that plastic straws don’t last long and can break easily. However, Trump claimed that they wouldn’t affect marine life.

Klepper tackled Hegseth’s decision to revert the name of Fort Liberty back to Fort Bragg. Klepper joked that Hegseth was trying to find a loophole by naming it after a different Bragg. The Pentagon explained that the name change was in honor of Roland L Bragg, who fought in World War II.

Meyers recapped news that Trump spoke with Vladimir Putin to try to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine. Meyers also poked fun at Time Magazine’s new cover featuring Elon Musk sitting behind the president’s Resolute Desk and Trader Joe’s limiting egg purchases to one dozen per customer per day.

The hosts also made light of the Philadelphia Eagles’ upcoming Super Bowl victory parade, scheduled for Valentine’s Day. In a joke about “ultimate test for Philadelphia boyfriends,” Meyers poked fun at the holiday-themed celebration.
