Later-Life Diet Changes Linked to Lower Dementia Risk

A recent study from the University of Hawaiʻi Cancer Center found that following the MIND diet can significantly lower the risk of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, even in people who adopt healthier eating habits later in life. The MIND diet combines elements of Mediterranean and DASH diets, focusing on foods that support brain health such as leafy greens, berries, nuts, and olive oil. Researchers analyzed data from nearly 93,000 adults and found that those who closely followed the MIND diet over a 10-year period had a 25% lower risk of developing dementia compared to those whose commitment decreased. The study highlights the importance of making dietary changes later in life to protect brain health.
