Actress Laura Dern paid tribute to her longtime collaborator and friend, late director David Lynch, on what would have marked his 79th birthday. Sharing a heartfelt photo of the two on Instagram, Dern wrote: “Happy birthday, tidbit. I will love and miss you every day for the rest of my life.”
Dern worked with Lynch across three films, including Blue Velvet (1986), Wild at Heart (1990), and Inland Empire (2006). The role that marked her breakout in 1985’s Mask solidified her career, leading to future collaborations.
MacLachlan and Cage, co-stars in two of the films, also shared tributes following Lynch’s death. “Forty-two years ago, for reasons beyond my comprehension, David Lynch plucked me out of obscurity to star in his first and last big budget movie,” MacLachlan wrote. Cage described working with Lynch as an experience of “brave, brilliant, and a maverick” filmmaker with a joyful sense of humor.
In honor of Lynch’s birthday, Dern’s children organized a worldwide group meditation for 10 minutes, asking fans to join in a moment of tribute for the late filmmaker.
