Lauren Daigle to Perform at Super Bowl with Trombone Shorty

Christian music star Lauren Daigle is set to perform at the upcoming Super Bowl in New Orleans, marking a full-circle moment for the 33-year-old singer. In 2020, LaToya Cantrell, New Orleans’ Mayor at the time, called for Daigle’s removal as a performer after she participated in Sean Feucht’s “Let Us Worship” tour, which sparked controversy due to its anti-COVID-19 restrictions on churches.

Daigle had initially joined the event as a spontaneous participant and was not confirmed to perform. She explained that her participation in the event led to Cantrell’s harsh letter, calling her a “weapon to society.” However, Daigle has since found vindication with her selection for the Super Bowl performance.

On Sunday, Daigle will join jazz musician Trombone Shorty for a rendition of “America the Beautiful” during the Super Bowl pregame show at the Caesars Superdome. The performance is expected to pay tribute to both New Orleans and Lafayette, where Daigle hails from. She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, stating that she began practicing the song after receiving Shorty’s call.

Daigle also discussed how she plans to use her performance to honor her nation and share a message of hope through music. The singer has become increasingly outspoken about her Christian roots, emphasizing the importance of using her platform to spread a positive message.

With this Super Bowl performance, Daigle is set to take the stage alongside fellow Louisiana native Trombone Shorty, who has crafted an arrangement of “America the Beautiful” that suits both cities.
