Actor Laurence Fishburne finally got the answers he was searching for when he appeared on the season 10 finale of Finding Your Roots. The show, hosted by Henry Louis Gates Jr., revealed that Fishburne’s biological father was a juvenile corrections officer who was different from the man his mother married.
The show used DNA and genetic research to identify Fishburne’s father, providing him with long-awaited clarity on his family history. Fishburne was visibly moved as he saw a photo of his father wearing glasses and a black suit for the first time.
Fishburne has spoken about how his love of cinema grew up because of his father taking him to see classic movies by directors like Steven McQueen, Sidney Poitier, and John Wayne. He even recalls going to see films like Hell in the Pacific at the age of 8.
