Lawrence Brothers Regret Faking Last Name for Hollywood Success

Three brothers, Joey, Matthew, and Andrew Lawrence, rose to fame in the 1990s with a fake last name. The trio revealed their regret over using “Lawrence” during an interview at 90s Con in Hartford.

Joey explained that his brother was named afterir father and grandfather, but they decided to change it to “Lawrence” for easier pronunciation. “Today, things like that are celebrated,” he said. “In the ’80s, we needed to water down our name for anonymity.”

The brothers admitted that their parents made a wise decision by giving them stage names. Matthew added that having two names has caused him trouble, especially when traveling internationally and dealing with government recognition.

Despite their misgivings, the Lawrence brothers praised each other as favorite costars on set. They credited their consistent chemistry and camaraderie for making working together enjoyable.

“We’ve had a good day every time we’re on set,” Joey said. “There’s no ego, just forgiveness and patience.” The brothers expressed relief in not having to deal with the complexities of having two names.
