The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has reclassified the December recall of Lay’s Classic Potato Chips as a Class I, indicating it poses the highest degree of health hazard. The product contains undisclosed milk and was sold in Oregon and Washington since November 3, 2022.
Frito-Lay initiated the voluntary recall of 6,344 bags due to potential allergens. Consumers with sensitivity or allergy to milk are advised to discard the chips. A “Guaranteed Fresh” date of February 11, 2025, and specific manufacturing codes mark affected products.
No further information is available on why the recall was upgraded to Class I after its initial announcement in December. The FDA has urged consumers to contact Frito-Lay with questions at 800-352-4477 for more information.
