Lebanese forces have arrested several individuals suspected of firing rockets towards Israel, as the country grapples with the aftermath of a series of air raids on its southern regions. The arrests follow a ceasefire agreement concluded in November 2024 between Lebanon and neighboring Israel, under the auspices of the US and France.
The strikes, which were launched in retaliation for two rockets fired at Israel, resulted in six deaths and 21 injuries, according to Lebanese authorities. General Rodolph Heikal, the new commander of the Lebanese armed forces, condemned the actions as a threat to peace efforts and warned that launching rockets from Lebanese territory serves the enemy.
Despite the agreement, Israel maintains a military presence along its border with Lebanon, despite an expired deadline for total withdrawal in February. Heikal argued that this presence remains a major obstacle to completing the ceasefire deal, which has yet to be fully implemented.
