LeBron James scored 34 points to become the first player to reach 50,000 combined points in his career, leading the Los Angeles Lakers to a 136-115 win over the New Orleans Pelicans. The victory extended the Lakers’ winning streak to seven games and moved them into second place in the Western Conference with a record of 39-21.
The Lakers’ supporting cast also shone, with four players scoring at least eight points despite the absence of injured starters Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura. Luka Doncic added 30 points, 15 assists, and eight rebounds to help the team’s 11-2 record since his acquisition.
The Pelicans, meanwhile, were led by Zion Williamson’s 37 points, but ultimately fell short against the NBA’s top defensive team. Los Angeles coach Brad Stevens praised his team’s performance, saying “almost everything is working.” The Lakers will finish a six-game homestand with a matchup against the New York Knicks on Thursday.
