LeBron James Stays with Lakers, Luka Doncic Joins Superstar Roster

LeBron James, 40, intends to stay with the Los Angeles Lakers beyond Thursday’s NBA trade deadline, according to a source familiar with his plans. The four-time MVP signed a two-year contract extension with the Lakers in the offseason, which includes a de facto no-trade clause.

In February 2024, the Golden State Warriors had expressed interest in trading for James at the deadline, but James’ representative, Rich Paul, informed the team that he was not interested. However, James has since stated his desire to finish his career with the Lakers, saying he is “happy and been very happy being a Laker.”

The news comes after Doncic was dealt to Los Angeles in a three-team trade on Sunday, sending Anthony Davis to the Dallas Mavericks. Doncic, who turns 26 later this month, has referred to James as his “idol.” The two players are among only three in NBA history with career averages of at least 25 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists per game.

With James staying put and a new teammate by his side, the Lakers’ superstar duo is set to dominate the league. Doncic’s addition marks a significant move by James to surround himself with talent and cement his legacy as one of the greatest players in NBA history.
