LeBron James was selected as the top pick in the NBA’s new midseason All-Star draft format. The 21-time All-Star was chosen by Team Shaq, with Curry and Davis joining him on the roster. This year’s All-Star Game will feature a four-team tournament, with each team competing in two semifinal games to reach the championship.
In an effort to make the event more competitive, the NBA introduced a new format this season. The 24 All-Stars were drafted onto one of three eight-man rosters. Team Shaq, led by James, consists of Curry and Davis, as well as players from around the world.
Barkley’s team, Team Kenny, features young talent like Anthony Edwards and Jalen Brunson. Meanwhile, Team Charles, coached by Barkley, boasts a mix of international stars such as Nikola Jokic and Giannis Antetokounmpo.
NBA Commissioner Adam Silver has expressed his desire to create a U.S. vs. the World format for future All-Star Games, but notes that it would be complicated to make the roster selection fair. Instead, this year’s tournament will bring together teams with a mix of American and international players. The first team to reach 40 points in their semifinal games will win the championship.
The winner of the Rising Stars competition, set for February 14, will also join the All-Star Game as part of Team Candace, alongside LeBron James.
