Leclerc Claims First Pole of Season for Ferrari at Hungarian Grand Prix

Charles Leclerc secured his first pole position of the 2025 season for Ferrari, beating both McLaren drivers. The session was marked by a close Q3, with only 0.543s separating the top 10. This is the closest Q3 in Formula 1 history.

Leclerc’s victory marks Ferrari’s first pole at the Hungaroring since Sebastian Vettel won from pole in 2017. Oscar Piastri will start in P2 for the third consecutive round, where he qualified last season and ultimately went on to win the race.

George Russell took P4 for Mercedes, while Fernando Alonso matched Aston Martin’s best Qualifying of the season. Lance Stroll bagged his best Qualifying position of the year in P6, and Gabriel Bortoleto secured his best result over one lap of the year in P7.

In contrast, Max Verstappen endured his worst Qualifying of 2025 for Red Bull, ending the session in eighth place. Lewis Hamilton was knocked out in Q2, failing to reach Q3 at the Hungaroring for the first time on pure pace.
