Lee Cronin Brings ‘The Mummy’ Back from the Dead

Horror fans are in for a treat as Lee Cronin is set to revive the classic Universal monster franchise, “The Mummy.” The film, titled “The Mummy,” will be written and directed by Cronin, who also helmed Evil Dead Rise. Blumhouse and New Line Cinema will produce the movie, with a release date of April 17, 2026.

Cronin’s vision promises to be unlike any other “Mummy” film before it, with the director hinting at an ancient and terrifying creature. The film is the third Universal Classic Monsters franchise to be revived by Blumhouse, following the success of Leigh Whannell’s The Invisible Man in 2020.

The concept of mummies has been a staple of horror fiction for over a century, dating back to Arthur Conan Doyle’s short story “Lot No. 249” in 1892. The franchise was first brought to life on screen in 1932 with Universal’s The Mummy, starring Boris Karloff as the resurrected Egyptian noble Imhotep.

Over the years, the franchise has undergone several revivals and reinterpretations, including a supernatural horror adventure in 1999 and a failed attempt to launch the Dark Universe in 2017. However, with Cronin at the helm, fans can expect a fresh take on the classic tale.

The film will be produced by James Wan, Jason Blum, John Keville, Michael Clear, Judson Scott, Macdara Kelleher, and Alayna Glasthal, who will oversee the project for Atomic Monster.
