Min Woo Lee chipped in with a birdie on Saturday to take the lead in the Houston Open, four strokes ahead of Scottie Scheffler. The 26-year-old Australian shot a 7-under 63, his best round so far this tournament.
Lee’s impressive round included an ace attempt on the ninth hole and several key putts that separated him from the rest of the pack. His younger brother Minjee Lee, who won an LPGA major earlier in her career, has been a support system for Min Woo during the tournament.
Scheffler, who began the third round with a one-shot lead, struggled to maintain his pace and finished with a 69. Alejandro Tosti of Argentina and Ryan Fox trailed Scheffler by five shots, while Rory McIlroy was eight strokes behind after shooting a late eagle on Saturday.
Min Woo Lee will look to close out his first PGA Tour victory on Sunday, as he sits four shots ahead of Tosti and Scheffler. The win would secure him a spot in the Masters, which is up for grabs if Michael Kim can crack the top 50 in the world standings.
