Leeds United and Burnley have been promoted to the Premier League after beating third-placed Sheffield United on Monday. Leeds moved up to 94 points with a 6-0 win over Stoke City, while Burnley secured their spot with a 2-1 victory at Turf Moor.
“I’m speechless” said Burnley captain Josh Brownhill, who scored both goals in the match. “We’ve been written off many times, but we’ve proven our doubters wrong by winning the Championship.”
The victories will bring significant revenue for the clubs, estimated to be around $180 million each. Leeds is owned by the 49ers Enterprises group, while Burnley has been majority-owned since 2020.
With two games remaining in the season, the Championship title will be decided between Leeds and Burnley. Sheffield United are assured of a spot in the Championship playoffs along with Sunderland.
Burnley’s defensive solidity played a key role in their promotion, conceding only 15 goals in 44 games. Manager Scott Parker has now achieved promotion to the Premier League with three clubs, following his previous successes at Fulham and Bournemouth.
Leeds United captain Ethan Ampadu expressed pride and positivity after the win. “We’ve worked all year for this,” he said.
