Shellenberger argues that this opposition is hypocritical, as the environmental movement has always focused on getting government money for various projects. He points out that organizations like Indivisible, which provide guidance on how to protest at Tesla dealerships, were previously urging liberals to target Musk’s actions.
The founder of Environmental Progress believes that the real motivation behind these protests is not climate change but rather a desire for government funding and political influence. He compares this behavior to the “sunshine movement,” which he claims manipulated young people into becoming hysterical about climate change for the sake of politics.
As a result, Tesla dealerships and charging stations have been targeted nationwide in protest. In recent incidents, Oregon and Massachusetts Tesla locations were damaged, and several individuals have been arrested for targeting these businesses with explosives or Molotov cocktails.
