Football legend and former coach Jimmy Johnson is hanging up his helmet after 31 years with Fox Sports. In a recent interview on “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” Johnson confirmed his retirement plans, citing it as the most difficult decision he’s ever made.
Johnson won numerous accolades during his time at Miami and Dallas Cowboys, including a national championship in 1987 and two Super Bowl titles in 1993 and 1994. He is tied for 61st all-time in NFL coaching wins. Johnson has been a beloved figure on Fox Sports’ “Fox NFL Sunday,” known for his signature humor, inspiring pep talks, and unmatched energy.
CEO Eric Shanks praised Johnson’s contributions to the show, calling him an inspiration to generations of football fans. The network released a heartfelt tribute to Johnson in the hours leading up to Super Bowl LIX, which can now be viewed as a farewell. Johnson was visibly emotional on set during the special. Despite his retirement, Johnson will still maintain relationships with his Fox Sports colleagues and friends.
Fox has not announced a direct replacement for Johnson on “Fox NFL Sunday,” leaving fans wondering who will fill the void left by the beloved coach.
