Legendary Singer Terry Reid Passes Away at 75

Terry Reid, a British rock singer and songwriter known as Superlungs, has died at the age of 75. The news was shared by Cleopatra Records in an email, confirming his passing with no cause given.

Reid’s career took off after he formed his first band, the Redbeats, as a teenager in Cambridgeshire. He became a key figure in the British rock scene in the 1960s, supporting bands like the Rolling Stones and joining them on tour at just 16 years old.

However, Reid turned down offers to join Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple instead, opting for a solo career that earned him critical acclaim. His music blended elements of rock, blues, soul, funk, and Latin rhythms, but was often overlooked by major labels.

Despite struggling with health issues, including cancer, Reid continued to release music throughout his life, including the cult classic album “River” in 1969. He also worked as a session musician and collaborated with notable artists such as Robert Plant, Keith Richards, and Chris Cornell.

In recent years, Reid’s music experienced a resurgence in popularity, with Pavement, The Raconteurs, and Marianne Faithfull releasing covers of his songs. His final release, “The Other Side of the River,” was reissued in 2016.
