Brenton Wood, legendary soul singer and author of the 1967 hit “The Oogum Boogum Song,” has died. He was 83 years old. According to his manager, Manny Gallegos, Wood passed away from natural causes while surrounded by family at home.
Gallegos revealed that Wood had a final message for fans before his passing: “Catch you on the rebound.” This phrase references Wood’s song of the same name, which became a hit when it was released in 1967. The song found new life throughout the years after being featured in films and TV shows such as “Almost Famous” and “The Umbrella Academy.”
Wood is best known for his two major hits from that year: “The Oogum Boogum Song,” which peaked at No. 19 on the Billboard R&B charts, and “Gimme Little Sing,” which reached No. 9 on the pop charts.
It’s worth noting that Wood had to pause his farewell tour, “Catch You on the Rebound: The Last Tour,” due to a hospitalization. Despite his passing, Wood’s music remains popular among fans, and he will be remembered for his iconic songs and enduring legacy in the music industry.
