Lenovo Announces First Officially Licensed SteamOS Handheld

Lenovo has made history by announcing the Legion Go S, a portable gaming PC that comes preinstalled with an officially licensed copy of SteamOS. The device is set to hit the market this month for its Windows version and in May for its “Powered by SteamOS” edition.

The Legion Go S will be available in two versions: one with a Windows 11 installation and another with SteamOS. The latter, priced at $500, has been made possible thanks to Valve’s licensing deal. The device features an 8-inch 1200p 120 Hz LCD screen, up to 32GB of RAM, and AMD’s Ryzen Z2 Go or Z1 core chipsets.

Valve has confirmed that the Legion Go S will run on the same SteamOS version as the Steam Deck, with improvements to compatibility across other handhelds. The company also plans to support more devices in the future.

The introduction of SteamOS in a handheld device is a significant development for PC gaming on-the-go. Lenovo’s move paves the way for more manufacturers to follow suit and abandon Windows for an officially licensed operating system.
