Lenovo has entered the handheld gaming market with its new device, the Legion Go S, which runs on either Windows 11 or SteamOS. The device’s design is more traditional than its predecessor, the Legion Go, featuring a large eight-inch display surrounded by controllers on each side of the screen.
Customers can choose between two AMD chipsets: Ryzen Z2 Go, a budget processor, and Ryzen Z1 Extreme, which is used in other devices like the ROG Ally X. The device comes in two configurations: one with SteamOS pre-installed for $499 and another with Windows 11 for $599.
The Legion Go S features an eight-inch display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, supporting resolutions up to 1920×1200 at 120Hz variable refresh rate. It is equipped with a 55Wh battery, two USB 4 ports, and a microSD slot. The device weighs 730g and comes with a small touchpad.
Lenovo plans to update the original Legion Go and even showcased an early prototype of the Legion Go 2 at CES 2025. Valve has collaborated with Lenovo to tweak SteamOS for the new machine. While the Legion Go S is considered a competitor to the Steam Deck, Valve’s focus is on growing the Steam ecosystem rather than becoming the next big console maker.
