Actress and long-time General Hospital star Leslie Charleson has finally had her cause of death revealed, with documents from the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office showing she died from “sequelae of blunt head trauma”, a condition resulting from sustained head injuries.
Charleson, who played Dr. Monica Quartermaine on the show for over four decades and 2,000 episodes, passed away at 79 in January. The actress had a history of health issues, including asthma, arthritis, atrial fibrillation, and normal pressure hydrocephalus.
According to reports, Charleson had experienced several falls shortly before her hospitalization, but it is unclear where or when the initial head trauma occurred. Executive producer Frank Valentini paid tribute to Charleson, describing her as a “beloved matriarch” of the show’s cast and crew, and mourning her passing in a heartfelt statement.
